Caption: I can't believe it -- rejected by Computer Villa. This is it. This must be the low point of my existence. Sir … You look down on your luck. Here's a dollar to help you upgrade that old iPod. I stand corrected. You really shouldn't walk around with that old thing.

Caption: Tonight on Newsmakers: Sadie Cohen, the matron whose anti-technology rants have made her a Youtube star. Mrs. Cohen, is it a contradiction that you're a YouTube star for hating technology? Hardly. I'm the voice of the people. They use technology, but they secretly resent it. They hate having to upgrade. They despise their addiction. Um ... but TV is ok, right? I'm coming for you next, #@%$ loser!

Caption: I've got to put a stop to Sadie. She's taking this Youtube stardom too far. Ever since I posted a video of her screaming about how much she hates technology, she's become a demagogue. She's using her popularity to spread evil, and truly venomous hatred. It is not necessary to upgrade your phone every year. Really?

Caption: It's the Fad Herald. I should've upgraded my phone. Hear ye. Today, a special announcement. The following is now in: Hope. Until further notice, that tingly, expectant feeling you're experiencing may be interpreted as optimism, mild euphoria, the illusion of better times ahead. Wow. Now that you mention it. Cool. Wait ... What do you man by illusion? Looking ahead to 2020 trends: Disappointment. Nah. We'll be fine, I'm sure.

Caption: Rudy, I summon thee. You are chosen to carry it forth. The Tablet. Behold: the upgraded iPad Pro. Better than a computer with the thinnest design ever. And I am the chosen one to tell the masses? Sort of. We expect millions to purchase and carry the message, making this a must-own item for 2019. But, yes, I mean, totally, you're chosen. A worthy daydream tends to have some elements of reality. Quickly, give us your credit card.

Comic/Cartoon: Rudy Park
Viewable Date: 2018-11-18 Pub. Date: 2018-11-18

Caption: Take pity on me. I can't give much this year. What is this heresy, son? I didn't get a raise this year, got furloughed this summer, am behind on my cable bill, can't afford proper dates. But it's the holidays. Think of the needy. Pierre in flat-panels has a new baby. Sandy, the mobile device manager, toils so hard for your business. And don't forget Apple. It's got to make its quarter. Computer Villa. Customer service. I shouldn't just think of myself. That's better. I'd like to upgrade all my devices, on credit. Even the most devoted sometimes need help overcoming their demons.

Image Number: 174420
Caption: Truth be told, I'm kind of bummed out by my latest research. Do tell, sir. The other guys at the café all upgrade their devices on a regular cycle. Their cycles are synched up. Not mine. I guess when you're a sensitive guy you don't focus on materian objects. And you're broke. Maybe I can seduce some dingy tart into buying me a new phone. Sensitive to the core.

8. Comic Strip Darrin Bell Rudy Park 2018-10-12 upgrade
Cartoonist(s): Darrin Bell
Comic/Cartoon: Rudy Park
Viewable Date: 2018-10-12 Pub. Date: 2018-10-12
Image Number: 174419
Caption: Are you saying I have no control over when I upgrade my devices? In effect. You've got some kind of subconscious internal clock that drives you to regularly buy a new phone, or TV, or video game console. And there's nothing I can do about it? So it would seem. How freeing. Does this revelation come with a new credit line? Go away.

Comic/Cartoon: Rudy Park
Viewable Date: 2018-10-11 Pub. Date: 2018-10-11
Image Number: 174418
Caption: Sir, your latest research troubles me. It['s irrefutable. You and Armstrong regularly upgrade your devices at precisely the same time of the month. Your upgrade cycles are synchronized. Nonsense. That suggests I have no control over when I upgrade. I'm not some drone who upgrades without even thinking about ... uh oh. You were saying, drone?

Cartoonist(s): Darrin Bell
Comic/Cartoon: Rudy Park

Image Number: 174417
Caption: Kindly readers, scientific literature has long established that women who spend a lot of time together synchronize their hormonal cycles. I believe I have discovered an analogous phenomenon in men. They too synchronize their cycles. What cycles? Their upgrade cycles! Look carefully, if you will, at the way men who like or work in close quarters seem to develop similar cycles for upgrading phones, televisions and other gadgets. I got a new phone! I got a new butter churn! He's right! Aaaahhh!!!

Viewable Date: 2018-10-09 Pub. Date: 2018-10-09
Image Number: 174416
Caption: Rudy, am I correct that you and Armstrong each just upgraded your laptops? Yeah, so? And last month, if I'm not mistaken, you and Armstrong each upgraded your phones. Again, so? Don't you see what's happened to you and Armstrong? You've synchronized your cycles. What? Your upgrade cycles! They're in sync! What in the world are you talking about? What in the world indeed?!

Caption: What can I get you? The pumpernickel sriracha margarita mocha sounds good. Ok. Can I get you anything else, ma'am? Yes. An explanation of the Fermi paradox. Would you like the most common explanation, or the latest explanation? The latest would be lovely. Despite knowing there are trillions of planets out there, we haven't seen any evidence of alien life because we're part of a simulation. We exist on the computer of someone living in a higher reality. The limits of our knowledge are dictated by the sophistication of the guy's program. He's been steadily upgrading the program. That's why the Hubble telescope "discovered" all those "old" galaxies, and that's why we've "discovered" thousands of new planets. We'll "discover" aliens as soon as the guy running our simulation gets around to installing the "alien life" expansion pack. I meant to ask for that "to go."

Caption: Tonight, on "Cops," a local man leads police on a high-speed chase through Best Buy. It all began when clerks notices he was coming in every day to upgrade different obsolete items. When he ran out of his own obsolete hardware, he began rummaging through other customers' pockets looking for old cellphones to upgrade. He zoomed free, but cops had no trouble tracking the perp down. Please don't be Rudy. Please don't be Rudy. Please don't -- Maybe next time "Rudy" will think twice before personalizing his Segway's license plate.

Caption: Rudy, I've noticed your upsells have fallen drastically over the last 16 years. More and more, you just give customers what they ask for instead of pushing them to buy a larger cup, an extra cookie, or a 3-minute bathroom pass. That is unacceptable. So I've signed you up for my mandatory "How to Upsell" course and ordered you the reading material. Tuition fees will be deducted from your check. As your first lesson, I've upgraded you from the 2-week course to the 15-day one for just $50 extra. Very bad man.

Caption: You're telling me not to choose sides between Google and Apple. Precisely. Computer Villa. Stay neutral. Continue to support both companies. Emotionally. Right. By buying as much as you can from both companies. Doesn't that only benefit you? Heretic. Absolve yourself by upgrading your phone! Computer Villa.

Caption: Hello, auto club? I have an emergency. What's happened, sir? Ever since I upgraded to iOS 8, my iPhone hasn't been syncing with my car stereo over bluetooth. I don't feel comfortable driving without being able to hear my "driving" playlist. How long till you get here? Sir, we're going to have to revoke your membership.

Caption: What's going on in the middle east really worries me. It is pretty bad. All that oppression caused by just a handful of arrogant tyrants who're bent on ruling the world … How's a normal guy supposed to compete with oil sheiks who can use unlimited finds to instantly train tier 4 troops, upgrade their strongholds to level 21 and buy hundreds of advanced teleports? Please tell me you're not talking about some video game. Why? Something else going on over there?
