Caption: I sense the tides have shifted, Rosencrantz. The pendulum has reversed its swing. A page has been turned. A new character has entered stage left. And nothing will ever, ever be the same. The tale has been sent down a fateful path, which ends either in exaltation or oblivion, we know not which. Oh ... wait ... perchance I just have gas. Serves you right for stealing my week-old sandwich.

Caption: Lately I've been thinking about quitting the agency and starting a Folklorico dance group. Say what? Remember how much I loved being in Ensables Ballet Folklorico back in college? Yeah. I was really good at it, too. And I don't think I've ever felt as happy as I did on stage. Maybe this is just your midlife crisis talking. Mumblety - three is NOT midlife anymore!!! If you say so.

Caption: Hello? Hi. Could I start you with some coffee? No thanks, that might make me too excited, and I'm in a presidential debate in a few hours. I'm Patsy Milquetoast, 23rd person on the Democratic debate stage. Who? Don't you remember me from the last debate? I'm the one who took a bold stand against boldness. I thought that was that John Delaney guy, who kept saying we can't do big things. I thought John was being too confrontational when he said all that. You can't beat someone by confronting them. Um ... I hope my saying that didn't offend you ... not that there'd be anything wrong with you being offended.

Caption: It all started when I was a tiny kid. My grandpa made me get up on stage at the family reunion and sing. Dr. Noodle. He'd really built me up. Told everyone how great a singer I was. But when I looked out at the crowd of 200 or 300 people who were strangers to me ... I froze. The room was completely quiet and I saw 200 or 300 sets of eyes staring at me. Burrowing into my soul and holding me in contempt. I forgot all the words. I started to cry. And then I wet myself. The first step toward overcoming shyness is crawling out from beneath my couch. Never!!!

Caption: I flew to Vancouver last week to give a speech. I thought you hated public speaking. Yeah, but they asked me, and I have a hard time saying no to people. Well, I'm proud of you, Lemont. It's always a good idea to tackle your fears head-on. I got nervous and threw up on stage. I'm sure no one noticed.

Caption: You're going to vote for Trump? He a man of action, dawg. Yeah. But what kind of action? What that matter? I'm tired of electin' people who can't get spit done. Do you like what he says he can get done? What that have to do with anything? What do you mean? It has everything to do with everything! If someone wants to accomplish awful things, you shouldn't want him to accomplish them. What if he said he was the only candidate on stage who could successfully build a puppy-melting death ray? Well ... probably can't Hillary build no death ray. She ain't never persuaded nobody to do nothin; noway. That's not the point!!!

Caption: I was supposed to give a speech in Omaha. I spent months perfecting my Powerpoint. Dr. Noodle. When I got there, there was no monitor. No projector. Nothing. But that's ok, that's happened before. I asked if they had an easel and paper so I could draw charts on the fly. They gave me an 8.5"x11" notepad. 800 people in a huge room can't see anything on an 8.5"x11" notepad. I said "That's ok. I've got some funny stories." But when I got on stage, there was no microphone. Stories aren't usually funny when you yell them. Is that when you knocked over the podium, got arrested, and they put you on 72-hour psych hold? No. That's when they served cake, and I thought "I have to compete with cake? Nobody can compete with cake."

Caption: Did you ever try on your mom's lipstick when you were little? No way. Oh come on, it's perfectly natural for any kid to imitate his parents. I sometimes pretended I was shaving like my daddy. It's a natural stage of childhood development. There's nothing wrong with it. Well, I never tried on momma's lipstick. Oh. I did try whooping myself for disobeying me, though. Dios mio. Tell you one thing: the next time I told myself not to run out in the street, I listened.

Caption: Why do you hate public speaking so much? What's the worst that can happen? I could freeze up, have nothing to say, people would see me as an inarticulate, pathetic excuse for an adult, and the shame would shatter my reputation and confidence, leading to a downward spiral of self-loathing that destroys my life. ... Other than that. I could throw up on stage. ... Other than that ...

Caption: I was invited to speak on a writer's panel discussion a few weeks back. No way! Why didn't you tell me? I was sick with the flu. Didn't want you to see me crash and burn. But it turned out ok. I was in the heavy-coughing stage, so I loaded up on Nyquil. Still didn't work, so I drank a couple glasses of wine at the event. What? I wasn't operating heavy machinery or anything. Anyway, then I popped about two dozen cough drops through the talk. I piled the discarded wrappers into a scale replica of chicken itza while I had some more wine. The audience started rippling like a pond after a stone's been tossed in it, and a few of them started rapidly oscillating between opaque and translucent ... Dios mio! ... Which I thought was incredibly rude of them.

Guess what I'm sayin' is, that made you mad. But I think we can fix it with a simple "my bad." Back! Back! I know karate! WAOOWOAAAAH! Get off the stage!

Caption: Hey Clyde, did you see the newest video someone posted on Youtube? I don't wanna talk about it. Woulda been funny if it didn't trivialize a very real problem. Some surveillance cam caught a wannabe thug trying to get to help him look tough. The loser keeps yelling "police-brutality me please!" Oh man, I couldn't believe it. Shut up. Shut up! Then he starts crying when they drive away.
