Caption: What was life really like in the Middle Ages, Sadie? A lot like today. There were a tiny handful of filthy rich feudal lords, and a huge mass of poor peasants who were too ignorant to see what was going on. What? No, I didn't really want to learn anything, I was just calling you old. Let's try again ... How did the sky over your house look after that asteroid wiped out all the dinosaurs? It looked brown. A lot like today.

Caption: What do you mean, do I believe aliens abduct people? You talkin' Donald Trump aliens, or is you talkin' Men in Black aliens? More like Fire in the Sky aliens, as seen in the 1993 film that's based on an actual account. I just think if that eyeball scene is real, it would explain why the whole country's so cranky. You spendin' way too much time on Youtube.

Caption: How was your New Years? Great. This year, I was designated good guy with a gun. You know how every year, bozos all over America fire off their semi-automatic rifles into the air to ring in the new year? Well, the NRA has a hotline for that. You call it, they send out a good guy with a gun to blast all those bullets out of the sky before they can come back down on you and your kids ... You're joking, right? Of course I'm joking. Everyone knows those bullets don't come back down.

Caption: I never asked what you and Ace Peerless did for Valentine's Day. We competed. I surprised him with a portrait of us that I painted … and he surprised me by sending a white horse to take me to the beach, where the Candorville Philharmonic performed an original composition Ace had written for me. At the crescendo, which was times to greet the sunset, Ace descended from the sky on a hang glider, accompanied by a flock of doves and eagles. Vancouver and I Skyped and exchanged heart emojis. I'll never know who Ace trained those birds to make that huge heart formation.

Caption: Well ... the Great Author in the Sky has given us another year, brotha. What're you gonna do with it? Are you gonna be a more humble person? Are you going to try and figure out why you're here -- what you're supposed to accomplish? Are you going to shed yourself of anyone and anything in your life that doesn't help you fulfill your purpose on earth? Are you going to use every day as a chance to become who you're meant to be? I'ma take a nap. (Sigh) I guess some people are meant to be couches.

Caption: So how'd Canada go, Lemont? How'd it go when you and "Vancouver" saw each other for the first time in a year? It went horribly. When she opened the door, it was fireworks all over again. The evening was pure magic. The next few days were even better. That does sound horrible. It was as if the great author in the sky were setting me up for a soul-crushing plot twist.

I'm afraid that if I go to sleep, I'll have this dream that I don't want to have. Well you can't go six days with not sleep! That might be what killed Prince! We can finally take that long walk along the beach … make love under the night sky on a bed of roses ... dress like big teddy bears and mud-wrestle ... All the beautiful things that we alone dared to dream are finally about to happen, Jenny. No ... this isn't Robert ... No ... this isn't Sam ... M.A. Take up painting, or sky-diving, or domesticate wild boars … do it and do it with passion! I haven't yet given up on actual people. Whittling is a fairly erotic pastime.

Caption: Hello, Concast Cable, you've reached the home of Lemont Brown. I'm pretty sure your merger with Cartel Cable is going to end up raising prices, so this is a great time to cancel my cable altogether and get all my favorite shows online for a fraction of the cost. At the sound of the beep, take your sky-high bills and shove them up your BEEP.

Caption: What do you see when you look at that cloud, Susan? I see a cloud. Sometimes a is just a cloud. I disagree. Nothing is what it seems. From afar, a cloud looks like a piece of cotton. If we didn't know that cotton can't float in the sky, we'd think it WAS cotton. It's our perception that makes it what it is, to us anyway. For instance, I perceive you to be about to make me a ham sandwich. (This cartoon originally published on 2011-01-01).

Caption: It's all coming back to me, doc. I was reporting on the Mexican drug cartels … PhD. Then it all went wrong. I got kidnapped. I ignored warnings. I made a mistake. AND THE WORLD ENDED. Lemont? We're still here. If the world ended, how can that be? How can the sky glow after the sun has already set? How can smoke rise after the candle has already gone out? Yes, yes ... How can my tongue still taste all aluminum-y long after I finish the diet cola? Leave the poetry to your patients. PhD. (Published originally on April 27, 2011.)

Y'know how sunlight is composed of all the colors in the spectrum, but blue has the shortest, most energetic wavelength so it's easier for it to ping-pong off the oxygen molecules and appear to fill the sky? There was a sale on blue paint at Home Depot. Oh.

Are those gold? When it comes to the birthday of the great author in the sky, I spare no expense. Do other writers ever back away from you slowly? Maybe I should've let him pick out the pencil.
