Caption: Of course my mama's fine. She has a memory like a steel trap. She remembers every cute thing I ever said to her. She remembers every time I snuck out to meet a boy. She remembers every time I called her to tell her I won a new client. She just doesn't remember she remembers all that. I just remembered the definition of "denial."

Caption: What's wrong, Lemont? There's a new Star Trek tv show coming next year. Isn't that a good thing? Star Trek is like a religion to you. Don't you see? When they canceled the first show, I wasn't even born. When they canceled the last show, I was almost thirty. When they cancel this next one, I'll be an old man! So? It happens ... and you, you'll be an old woman, Susan. Never.

Caption: Hey Mister … what's the big deal about the new Star Wars trailer? Omigawd … I haven't seen so much emotion and tragedy and hope all at the same time since "Empire"! And it’s got acting! And it feels real! And it's got Leia and Han and Chewie, and everything that made Star Wars real to me even when I was seven! I've been waiting for this my whole life! My brother was right. Ask a really old guy about that trailer and he'll go nuts. You brother doesn't deserve real Star Wars.

Caption: Susan, did you hear about the EM drive? It seems to work and if so, it'll revolutionize mankind. Is it going to make us be nice to each other? It's all coming together. NASA discovers half a dozen worlds and moons in our solar system that have subsurface oceans. And at the same time, we may have developed a new engine that requires no fuel and can get us to all these places in just weeks or months. Don't you see? The age of interplanetary colonization is actually about to begin! Is it going to make us be nice to each other? I'm sorry, did you say something?

Caption: The Koch Brothers are filthy rich billionaires. They plan on spending $1 billion on the upcoming elections. I can't even afford to buy a new car, let alone a new Congress. It all makes me feel so hopeless. But then I think back to the Middle Ages. Sure there was Feudalism. But there was also jousting, and damsels, and knights. So Feudalism's not all bad. Plus, modern Feudalism is almost 92% guaranteed to not include the plague. PhD. Well, there's that.

Caption: Why do people revere the "founding fathers" as if they were infallible gods? Seriously, a lot of these guys were know-it-all twenty-somethings who had very little life experience. And then there were the ones in their forties. You never trust a guy in his forties. That's when a guy flips out, leaves his wife and buys aa shiny new horse.

Caption: Remember the New Year's party? Yeah, I do. That means I'm getting old, Susan. When we were in college, New Year's parties were really wild. Cops had to be called. Everyone drank way too much to remember anything. It was really rowdy. … Theoretically speaking. You didn't do any of that stuff, Lemont. Not technically. But I was the same age as people who did, so it's like I did.

Caption: I'm so tired of Facebook. Everyone's always posting about their lives. At first it was cool; you could find out about your friend's lives without having to even ask them. But after a while, the "I didn't ask them" part started to make it seem creepy. Am I the only one who remembers when friends used to actually greet each other before talking about themselves? When did "toe transplant went well" become the new "hi"? You're too young to be this crotchety.

Caption: How much would it cost to repair my computer? Make and model? 2002 iMac. I see. … Sir, have you thought of getting a new computer? This is the most beautiful iMac ever made. Are you gonna help me or not? Fun fact: There are over 800 million people who are younger than your computer. That's not helping!

Caption: Today is my grandpa's 94th birthday. I went shopping for a gift. Then I remembered … Dr. Noodle. A few years ago, he tried teaching me to play dominoes. We'd play with his beat up, weathered dominoes that looked older than my dad … Later, when I was vacationing in Mexico, I bought him a new set of dominoes, hand-carved from obsidian, with jade inlays. I carried it through the jungle for weeks, gave it to him for his 90th birthday. A week later he gave it to the mailman. Old people have old things because of sentimental value. This year I'm getting him oatmeal.

Caption: Hello black, Latino, elderly, poor or college-age voter. You look familiar. 3C. No, I don’t think we've ever met before. Yeah we have … You were here four years ago. You were trying to keep me from voting by telling me all kinds of misinformation. Like "If you vote but you haven't paid your taxes, you'll be audited." 3C. I have no idea what you're talking about. I'm not listening to you. Get lost. SLAM! Say, have you heard news reports about the courts overturning the strict new voter ID laws? I just wanted to say those were all typos; and if you don't have exactly the right kind of ID, and you try to vote, you'll be jailed in a Turkish prison. I'M NOT LISTENING!

Caption: What's wrong, Lemont? I did the math. I first watched the original Star Trek in 1982, 13 years after it ended. It seemed so old. It belonged to my parents' generation. And they were old too. Then Star Trek: The Next Generation started, and it was my generation's Trek. New. Exciting. It's been 17 years since The Next Generation ended. I'm taking away your calculator.

And they of the faithless who revel in partisan bickering will be smote but the voter, for a new day is upon us all. O...K...And lo, will the...what was the question again?

Caption: I turned 30 the other day. That morning, I looked in the mirror and all of a sudden there was a bald spot. I looked some more, and all of a sudden there were lines on my forehead and at the corners of my eyes. I looked in the mirror again that night and I saw turkey neck. And jowls. Definitely jowls. Out of nowhere. And I looked closer, and my skin wasn't smooth anymore. That's when I realized... I see. You realized you've been in denial about growing older. I realized I need a new mirror.
