Cartoonist(s): Darrin Bell
Comic/Cartoon: Rudy Park
Viewable Date: 2019-03-08 Pub. Date: 2019-03-08
Image Number: 176654
Caption: Tell Laurel that I'm sorry. I'll try to listen better. I'll pay more attention to her and I'll try to be less distracted. Our relationship is more important to me than some silly new Apple Macbook that is the thinnest most beautiful laptop ever constructed. She's more important than the sleek and sexy iPhone, the gorgeously rendered collector's edition of Grand Theft Auto IV, or the winsome pitch of an incoming text message. You'll tall her that for me? Not in so many words.

Image Number: 175965
Caption: Rudy tries to assess his relationship with laurel on the gadget scale -- A sophisticated way for a young man to understand his emotions. I would give up my iPod and my iPhone for her. Okay. Then I must ask an essential question. Are you prepared to share passwords? Do I have salesman-customer confidentiality? Depends how much you spend. Computer Villa.

Comic/Cartoon: Rudy Park
Viewable Date: 2019-01-23 Pub. Date: 2019-01-23
Image Number: 175964
Caption: Have you assessed your relationship with your girlfriend on the gadget scale? What's that? It's a way of measuring your feelings. For instance, do you like her as much as a digital camera? Of course. iPod, iPhone, laptop? Yes. Yes. What kind of processor? Quad core. Depends on her mood.

4. Comic Strip Darrin Bell Rudy Park 2018-11-18 device
Cartoonist(s): Darrin Bell
Comic/Cartoon: Rudy Park
Viewable Date: 2018-11-18 Pub. Date: 2018-11-18
Image Number: 174746
Caption: Take pity on me. I can't give much this year. What is this heresy, son? I didn't get a raise this year, got furloughed this summer, am behind on my cable bill, can't afford proper dates. But it's the holidays. Think of the needy. Pierre in flat-panels has a new baby. Sandy, the mobile device manager, toils so hard for your business. And don't forget Apple. It's got to make its quarter. Computer Villa. Customer service. I shouldn't just think of myself. That's better. I'd like to upgrade all my devices, on credit. Even the most devoted sometimes need help overcoming their demons.

Cartoonist(s): Darrin Bell
Comic/Cartoon: Rudy Park
Viewable Date: 2018-10-13 Pub. Date: 2018-10-13
Image Number: 174420
Caption: Truth be told, I'm kind of bummed out by my latest research. Do tell, sir. The other guys at the café all upgrade their devices on a regular cycle. Their cycles are synched up. Not mine. I guess when you're a sensitive guy you don't focus on materian objects. And you're broke. Maybe I can seduce some dingy tart into buying me a new phone. Sensitive to the core.

6. Comic Strip Darrin Bell Rudy Park 2018-10-12 device
Cartoonist(s): Darrin Bell
Comic/Cartoon: Rudy Park
Viewable Date: 2018-10-12 Pub. Date: 2018-10-12
Image Number: 174419
Caption: Are you saying I have no control over when I upgrade my devices? In effect. You've got some kind of subconscious internal clock that drives you to regularly buy a new phone, or TV, or video game console. And there's nothing I can do about it? So it would seem. How freeing. Does this revelation come with a new credit line? Go away.

Cartoonist(s): Darrin Bell
Comic/Cartoon: Rudy Park
Viewable Date: 2018-10-11 Pub. Date: 2018-10-11
Image Number: 174418
Caption: Sir, your latest research troubles me. It['s irrefutable. You and Armstrong regularly upgrade your devices at precisely the same time of the month. Your upgrade cycles are synchronized. Nonsense. That suggests I have no control over when I upgrade. I'm not some drone who upgrades without even thinking about ... uh oh. You were saying, drone?

Cartoonist(s): Darrin Bell
Comic/Cartoon: Rudy Park
Viewable Date: 2018-10-10 Pub. Date: 2018-10-10
Image Number: 174417
Caption: Kindly readers, scientific literature has long established that women who spend a lot of time together synchronize their hormonal cycles. I believe I have discovered an analogous phenomenon in men. They too synchronize their cycles. What cycles? Their upgrade cycles! Look carefully, if you will, at the way men who like or work in close quarters seem to develop similar cycles for upgrading phones, televisions and other gadgets. I got a new phone! I got a new butter churn! He's right! Aaaahhh!!!

Image Number: 174416
Caption: Rudy, am I correct that you and Armstrong each just upgraded your laptops? Yeah, so? And last month, if I'm not mistaken, you and Armstrong each upgraded your phones. Again, so? Don't you see what's happened to you and Armstrong? You've synchronized your cycles. What? Your upgrade cycles! They're in sync! What in the world are you talking about? What in the world indeed?!

Caption: My new laptop is nicer than your new laptop. I'm not going to get into a competition about whose new laptop is nicer. The one I replaced is nicer than the one you replaced. Stop it.

Caption: Great news. I got an iPhone. Shut up! You did? Is it not awesome? It is not. Huh? You mean it is awesome or it is not awesome? Yes. Let us begin again. Is it not the greatest device of any kind ever invented? You're making no sense. My point: I hate the iPhone. You're making no sense.

Comic/Cartoon: Rudy Park

Image Number: 170880
Caption: Don't tell anyone, but I'm pretty sure I saw a TR-38 last night. I was lounging on my roof, bathed in the supple blue glow of my iPad, iPhone, Kindle, Apple Watch, laptop and mini TV. Like ususal. Suddenly, I had the inexplicable urge to turn them all off. That's when it came into view: A huge, black, triangle floating right over me. It began to vibrate, and suddenly a single thought was projected into my head. "Keep at least one of these things off please. Your gigantic wattage is messing with our warp drive." Could've been swamp gas.

Caption: I closed all my rings yesterday, Randy! What do you mean? On my Apple Watch. If you move enough, stand enough and work out enough during the day, colorful rings close on the watch face. I see. Impressive, little buddy. What'd you do, go for a long run? Do 100 situps? An hour of cardio? Fun fact, totally not related: If the watch notices you're not moving, standing or working out it lowers the amount of time it takes to close the rings. Less impressive.

Caption: Tonight, on "Cops," a local man leads police on a high-speed chase through Best Buy. It all began when clerks notices he was coming in every day to upgrade different obsolete items. When he ran out of his own obsolete hardware, he began rummaging through other customers' pockets looking for old cellphones to upgrade. He zoomed free, but cops had no trouble tracking the perp down. Please don't be Rudy. Please don't be Rudy. Please don't -- Maybe next time "Rudy" will think twice before personalizing his Segway's license plate.

Caption: Hey Siri, dictate a note. What would you like to say? Shhh!!! Whisper, Siri! I'm trying to dictate an article about our hostage-takers without them hearing I'm a journalist. I'm sorry. I didn't quite get that. He said "I'm trying to dictate and article about our hostage-takers without them hearing I'm a journalist." Thanks.

Caption: To: Rudy Park. From: Lemont Brown. What're you up to these days, Brother Park? That depends. If we're talking the SimCity game I began back when we were in college in '93 … I'm up to 14 linked quad-core RAID devices that take up the whole basement. That's not what I meant. It's costing me a fortune, but I've been playing the same game for so long that I'm pretty sure my 59 billion Sims have become sentient and worship me as a deity. I meant how do you spend your time these days? Working. I've got 59 billion mouths to feed. Tap tap tap tap.

Caption: Sir, please stow your personal electronics. How come he gets to keep his out? Who? That guy over there, with the stylus and the analog tablet. "Stylus and … analog tablet"? You mean "pen and paper"? You say "tomato," I say "disposable power cell for smartphone operators."

Caption: I demand to be recompensed for the 28.47 minutes of my time your café was wasted. What? There are 1500 square feet of seating space in this café. That is room enough for 125 people. 90 percent of Americans own a personal electronic device of some sort. The quotient of that ratio of people to electronic devices is 112.5. Dividing by two produces a quotient of 56.25. So you see, it's obvious why you owe me compensation for my wasted time. I have no idea what you're saying. You only have 55 electrical outlet panels and they're all taken. I couldn't plug in Heisenberg. You owe Heisenberg and me $9.75 for wasting a trip down here. There's an outlet in the john.

Caption: I just realized how vulnerable I am to people who could hack my phone, my self-driving car, my tv, my garage door opener … So I bought a device called "Trojan Horse: that's supposed to protect me from all that. It connects to my wifi router. It monitors all my web traffic, all my connected devices, and ... well, I'm not exactly sure what it does, but it's supposed to keep the hackers out somehow. What did you say the device is called again? Now I don't worry about anyone hacking my toaster.

Caption: Which useless activity are you doing on your electronic pacifier right now? My what? Your electronic pacifier, your soother. Your binky. My iPhone is not a "binky." It's an indispensable tool, essential to keeping the busy, modern life running like a well-oiled machine. You can't stand to experience a single moment devoid of activity. Solitude makes you agitated, lonely, bored or insecure. Anytime you feel bad, you reach for your phone. It's your binky. My Twitter followers agree with me that you're full of it.
