Caption: Remember how I said ICE detained that 18-year-old American citizen for nearly a month? He said when they finally let him go, he'd lost over 20 pounds because food was scarce in the camp. Detainees have said the older kids often give their rations to the little ones to keep them from crying because the crying angers the guards. What country is this?! Careful, if they think you don't know, they might come for you.

Caption: Then there's Peter Sean Brown, an American citizen with the same name as an immigrant. He had proper ID, but still the government held him for weeks and almost deported him to Jamaica. Then it occurred to me … I've always wanted to travel more. Do you think when my time comes, they'd deport me to Paris if I start speaking with a French accent? Mon dieu.

Caption: ICE and border patrol are really detaining Americans? Even American children. Back in March, they detained nin-year-old Julia Medina for 36 hours and interrogated her without her parents. She's an American who lives in Tijuana, and she had her passport. They tried to get her 14-year-old brother to say she was his cousin. What? Why? I asked them then they asked me for my passport. So I panicked and jumped into a passing freight train ... But I'll make a follow-up call tomorrow.

Caption: Did you know ICE and border patrol are detaining American citizens now? So far it's just a few. They detained 18-year-old Francisco Erwin Galicia for almost a month … even though he showed his state ID and his social security card. His mom showed them his birth certificate proving he was born in Dallas. But they still wouldn't release him ... not until the Dallas morning news reported on it. I still agree with the readers who said it was crude for you to title your article The Press is the Enema of the People.

Caption: America betrayed its Japanese citizens. Stole their homes. Shipped them at gunpoint to concentration camps. Demeaned them. Dehumanized them. Declared them aliens. Abused them … but when I interviewed five-year-old George, he was … ok. Not happy, but … ok. His dad had told him it was all part of their vacation. Wait ... back up ... you're saying you snuck into an air duct here in Candorville ... and climbed out of it in an internment camp in Arkansas in the year 1942? That's not important right now. Important part is, kids can be ok with anything ... as long as they've got mom and dad there to lie to them.

Caption: Here we have a fabulous, publicly owned power grid. It served an island that was home to 3 million American citizens, until it was devastated by a natural disaster. Bidding starts at $3 billion. $3 billion! $4 billion! We have $4 billion. $4 billion going once ... $4 billion going twice ... Sold, to the gentleman from Foreignvania, for $4 billion! Is this the room where they're auctioning off Captain Picard's flute for Star Trek? You want the Macarthur Ballroom. 3rd floor. Here we have a fabulous-but-devastated public education system ...

Caption: Hi momma … What do you mean you've been deported? … Yes, yes, I do know about your love for bean pie. What's that have to do with … Really? ICE raided Muhammad's Bean Pie Shack? … But why would they think you weren't a citizen? … So what if you didn't have ID! This is Ameri -- They did what? They asked you questions to make you prove you're a citizen? ... What questions? ... I see. Listen, momma, when armed goons handcuff you and demand that you tell them who the president it, I don't care what your politics are, you don't answer "Donald Duck." ... Yes, momma, I do see the similarities. But the time for political satire is before they come for you. Not during. Yes, I am flossing regular -- Momma, let me call a lawyer -- Yes, I know, but Cousin Pookie is a divorce attorney. No, it's not the same --

Caption: Hi Vancouver. Hi Candorville. Are you here?? I'm looking out my window, I don't see you. No, I'm still at your airport. Waiting to go through customs. What? You landed twelve hours ago. I got in the wrong line. I was in the line for Americans seeking refugee status on account of Trump. Asylum seekers. Tourists.

Caption: Sometimes it seems like everything is something vs. something else. What do you mean? There's the obvious: Russia vs. Ukraine, Israel vs. Palestine, Syria vs. Syria, Cartels vs. Latin America, cops vs. citizens … Right vs. left, religion vs. science, rich vs. poor, employers' rights vs. employees' rights, mankind vs. nature ... Um ... Batman vs. Superman ... Sometimes it's best to end your point while it still seems profound. Robin Thicke's career vs. Miley Cyrus ... Oh, never mind. What's I tell you?

Caption: The South's new "voter ID laws" have nothing to do with race. Yeah, right. Thank God For Culture Clash. No really, it says right here in "The Delusional Black Man's Guide to Interpreting The Behavior of Others," top of page 150,786. "Even if they are recording everything you do, it's only to catch terrorists and will never be used against you if you're not a terrorist." Oops ... My bad; this is "The Delusional Citizens Guide to Interpreting The Behavior of Government."

Caption: What do you think of "stop and frisk"? I think it's rude. If cops are going to violate my constitutional rights, the least they could do is not waste my time. "Walk and frisk" would be a little more acceptable. Or "bike and frisk." I've got places to be. Dios mio.

Caption: Tonight's top story: Tea party Favorite, Republican Senator Ted Cruz, Was Born In A Foreign Country. Republicans point out that since his mom was American, he's still a "natural-born citizen," eligible to run for president. They Also apologize for all that censored "birther" stuff they dragged us all though. In unrelated news, you're dreaming right now.

Caption: I'm conflicted about all these superhero movies. On the one hand, they're a bunch of nonsense about how someone else will always come to your rescue. On the other hand, that someone else is usually a private citizen who triumphs despite the interference of government. I can't decode whether Hollywood liberals are indoctrinating our youth into a culture of dependency ... TIME. ... Or admitting that all government does is get in the way. Maybe they're just showing stuff blowing up. Yes, but blowing up liberally or conservatively?

Caption: What's wrong, Lemont? I was just thinking … The President thinks he has the right to use American drones to kill American citizens. I always thought we'd have flying cars before we had flying robotic death machines. The future's coming out of sequence.

Caption: I'm tired of people complaining about the Supreme Court's "Citizens United" ruling. The court did not give out elections to the highest bidder. They simply reminded us that the first amendment applies to corporations and unions, because corporations and unions are people. If you prick them, do they not bleed? No. If you tickle them, do they not laugh? No. If they kill people, do they not go to jail? No.

Caption: I'll handle this, Garcia. This is Arizona. We don’t' want them thinking you're an illegal and deporting you. ID. Both of you. 'fraid I don't have mine, officer. The airline lost my luggage. Lost my wallet, my clothes, my hearing aids … I think we have to find out if he's a citizen. (Sigh) Quick, who's the President of the United States? Eh. Sounds Canadian to me. Step out of the car, hockey puck. (Originally published in 2010)

Caption: People are adapting to the whole "total economic catastrophe" thing. … After a while, an empire's citizenry adapts to its decline. Take Rome, for instance: after a while, the news scrolls even had critics who'd rate every new barbarian incursion. Fear, Inc. Tacitus, do you have to ALWAYS compare everything to ancient Rome? This is why I don't like talking to you old-timers. The Great Eberticus gave the Visigoth Invasion two thumbs down.

Caption: Dear God, nurse, it's another one! This is a unique case, Doctor. Why? Another anti-Obama protester has collapsed under the weight of all his different metaphors. Yes Doctor, but observe … A tea bag, protesting the bank bailouts. A birth certificate, suggesting Obama's not a citizen. A scythe, protesting the public health care option. The usual. Look closer, Doctor. My word, is that ... an AFRO? I'm Black! That's not usually a symptom of this disease.

Caption: I need to tell you the ground rules. Anything you say is just between us … Except for two things: if you threaten yourself or someone else, or if you tell me about a child or a senior citizen who's in danger. Sounds reasonable. Or if you say something so juicy I have to share it with my friends. ... So start by telling me why you have no sense of humor. Ok ... it all started with this obnoxious therapist.
