Caption: Fe is the chemical symbol for iron, atomic number 26. Sometimes the periodic table of elements seems like high school, full of cliques and gossip. Hydrogen and oxygen atoms spend lots of time hanging out together while elements like Argon and Radon are loners, never bonding with others. Gold, Au, and Silver, Ag, are the rich elements, but I honestly think iron the the most popular. I can't believe iron thinks "rusty" is a term of affection!

Caption: I (heart) dogs. Me too! The saying "If you want a friend in Washington, get a dog" is often attributed to Harry Truman. Presidents and their dogs have a special bond. Recent presidential dogs include Barack Obama's "Bo" and George W. Bush's "Barney." Truman should have had a pooch named "Buck." Because Buck would always stop here. I wish Ronald Reagan had owned a dog named "Gorbachev." Mister Gorbachev, chase down this ball! And I'll bet John Kennedy thought all dogs should be rewarded for their loyalty. Ask not what your dog can do for you, ask what you can do for your dog!

Caption: It's college orientation time. The brain cell is attending an elite academic university, and the hormones and endorphins are going to party schools. The muscle cell earned an athletic scholarship. And it looks like the DNA molecule has already picked a major. The DNA has life planned out. It's chemically active down there. The individual atoms are excited, but also seem a bit sad. Of course! Going off to college is an emotional time for them. Old bonds are breaking and new ones are being formed!

The highwire walker wants a portfolio with a mixture of stocks and bonds. Having balance is her highest priority! And the lion tamer is interested only in very safe investments --- He has zero tolerance for more risk in his life. Our last meeting today is with the trapeze artist. What is your net worth? Every penny it cost!

Caption: Ernie is a documentary filmmaker who tells stories of folks in their professional lives -- I think he should wonk on his film titles more. One film looked at the surprisingly competitive cutthroat world of the dry cleaning business. "The Hanger Games." In another, we see astronomers traveling to remote locations to escape light pollution. "The Dark Night." Ernie showed us the bond among young butchers in an increasingly vegan world. "Stand by Meat"! And he told us the story of a man who is a genius at capping underwater oil well leaks. "The Wizard of Ooze"!

Caption: Atomic Gossip. That oxygen is dating two hydrogens at the same time! If those hydrogens find out he's dating them both, things could get frosty! Or they might get angry --- things that would heat up and boil over! The situation with those three isn't as crazy as the nine oxygens, three nitrogens, five hydrogens and three carbons all living together in a very tangled web of personal relationships! Yeah, that nitroglycerin bunch --- that's an explosive situation!

Caption: Broker. Stocks. Bonds. It looks like a chaotic financial market down there. The gene for height is short selling. An oxygen teamed up with a couple hydrogens to make bonds and create liquid assets. Those simple sugars are buying fast-rising energy stocks that'll probably crash later. And the helium atom is selling everything. I think he has to make a balloon payment!

Of course, the amoebas are buying stocks that will split … and the fat cells are buying rapidly expanding companies! Those flesh-eating bacteria are buying stock in companies doing hostile takeovers .... I wonder what stock those atoms are buying. They're not buying stock ... The individual atoms are looking for bonds!

I'm a money imaginer for a big breakerage firm on Maul Street! I didn't know you had a business background! My college major! In fact, Fed Chairman Alan Greaseman was my roommate. And it was my idea to lower the primate! I'm privy to lots of inside inflammation if you'd like some advice during this economic repression. It's important that you be diversified, and I can introduce you to high-trek mutuals or some adventure capital. But my real specialty is these tax-exempt puny bonds. Uh .. I wouldn't put that on your business cards if I were you, M-Man. Tum-de-dum...

Caption: Adam Smith and The Invisible Hand. In "The Wealth of Nations", 18th century political economist Adam Smith advocated free market capitalism. He believed the public interest was served, albeit unintentionally, when individuals freely pursue their own self-interest. "Every individual intends only his own gain and ... is led by an invisible hand to promote an end which was no part of his own intention". - Wealth of Nations, Book IV, Chapter II. Wall Street. What happened to you? The invisible hand gave me a wedgie..
